CiE 2009 in Heidelberg

Accommodation

We made preliminary reservations in the hotels listed below from 19 July through 24 July, 2009. The prices given below are special rates and include breakfast. Please book rooms directly through the hotel using the code/keyword "CiE".

The hotels below have been recommended by the conference service of our university. There are many more hotels in Heidelberg, including some pretty neat smaller ones in the historic center, see the Heidelberg Tourism Bureau.

CiE 2009 will take place on the premises of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg on the campus "Im Neuenheimer Feld" (INF), close to the Mathematical Institute (INF 288). The campus is north of the Neckar river, whereas many other points of interest are south, including the main station and the historic center of Heidelberg, the Altstadt, where most of the hotels and restaurants are.

Bismarckplatz, Heidelberg's busy city center and central bus station at the western end of the Altstadt, is approximately 2 km from the campus. Public transportation in Heidelberg is excellent and the campus can be reached from Bismarckplatz and from the center of the Altstadt by direct bus connections in 10 and 18 minutes, respectively.

BoardingHouse (provisionally reserved until 26 June 2009)
The BoardingHouse is a hotel in a Mediterranean decorated style. The hotel has 31 studios (1-, 2- and 2-4- person studios and non-smoking studios) some of which are very quiet, facing the garden. All studios are allergy-tested and have an equipped kitchenette with coffee and tea maker. Stop of public transport system close by. The hotel is in the quarter called Weststadt, only 400 m from Bismarckplatz. At Bismarckplatz begins also the historical part of the Old Town with its famous sights.

Hotel Denner, located directly at Bismarckplatz, stands out from other hotels by its creatively designed rooms. Young creatives from all over the world turned their dreams and ideas into reality when creating the interior decoration, by using different colors and warm materials like wood. The small hotel features 18 rooms and 1 junior suite. Some of the rooms are at the quieter back side of the building. The hotel is located directly at Bismarckplatz. Hotel Central is a functionally furnished medium sized hotel (48 rooms) close to the main train station. In the evening you have the opportunity to exercise yourself in the fitness room or relax in the hotel's own beer-garden. The hotel is located near main station and within 15 to 20 min walking distance of the city centre.

Hotel am Rathaus is a small and private hotel with 17 comfortable rooms. The hotel is situated next to the city hall in the center of the Old Town. The market place with the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit) are very close. The famous Hauptraße, the longest pedestrian zone in Germany, runs directly by the hotel. All sights, like the Universitätsplatz and the Old Bridge, are within walking distance.

The small hotel (24 rooms) displays modern comfort in a historical building. All rooms are individually furnished. The hotel is a non smoking house. The restaurant which belongs to the hotel is well known for its excellent cuisine. The hotel is located in the old-town close to the city convention centre. The river Neckar is not far, as is the famous Hauptstraße, the longest pedestrian zone in Germany (1 minute by foot). Hotel am Schloss is a small, family managed hotel with 23 rooms. As the name says, the location of the hotel is directly below the castle, in the Old Town. Named after the dwarf Perkeo who was the jester of the castle of Heidelberg, hotel Perkeo is a small (24 rooms) and cosy hotel with sophisticated atmosphere. This low-budget hostel is located directly near the zoo and within walking distance from the conference venue. It is in a quiet area with the Neckar river flowing right behind the youth hostel, but there is a regularly scheduled urban bus line to the city centre and the main station stopping nearby. The youth hostel has 127 rooms, most of them with four to six beds. Bathrooms are shared.

Seminarzentrum der SRH (provisionally reserved until 1 June 2009)
This is a small guest house in the less busy western part of Heidelberg, about 1,5 km from the conference site and 2,5 km from the city centre and the Old Town of Heidelberg. For a small additional fee guests may use the the facitilies of SRH Campus Sports, including sauna, indoor swimming pool and fitness room, located right near the hotel.
